Our Story

The Picture House Frame Shop has been around for xxx years! Current owner David Beale bought it in 2001? Recently he has added a partner, Emily Gibbons, who started working at the shop in 2010.

David Beale is both an accomplished artist and teacher.  He has won numerous national and international awards and has taught many workshops in both the USA and abroad.  David is known not only for his skill and knowledge but easy-going personality that makes every workshop experience memorable and delightful. In two-week workshops, flexibility is built in to the schedule to allow excursions and events that evolve from the group’s experiences.

Emily Gibbons is a watercolor artist, painting and raising her toddler in Cortland. Emily moved to Cortland after earning a degree in Art Studio from SUNY Geneseo. Emily teaches workshops in watercolor around the country and internationally, including a yearly workshop in Ireland. Inspired by her travels, local landscapes, friends and family, Emily’s watercolors reconnect her to a place or a person.  Because of her toddler, Emily has minutes to paint. Therefore her current paintings are small scale, quick and loose. She maintains a studio in the Cortland Corset Building.
